How can you make your speaking work fun?

The purpose of speech is to receive or communicate interesting information, and not to develop speed, get rid of errors, etc. First of all, concentrate on what you are going to talk about, what will be of interest to you and the interlocutor, and not on how to speak, you must agree, the first is more important. Mistakes in speech are forgivable, but if it is not interesting, no one will talk to you for sure and walk with your speed and literacy wherever you want. About grammar later.

Think about what topics you are really interested in talking about. What topics do you like to talk about in Russian? Where and at what moments can you raise a conversation in the language on this topic? Who will talk to you about this with pleasure?

Try to imagine the situation in advance and talk to yourself in private at home everything in English. If you don’t know any expressions, take a look in the dictionary.

Take a sheet of paper and write down what bothers you in your spoken English in detail: what specific topics cause difficulties, what you would like to learn in the first place, and it will be easier and faster to learn it than just any material in order in the textbook (the textbook is not canceled, this more motivating material will be an addition). Think about what expressions and topics you will need in the near future, where you feel insecure.

If you are studying with a teacher, try to be more active yourself, do not wait for the teacher to offer you all possible assignments. Your goal is to have an interesting time in class, everyone is unique and it is not a fact that something unusual and new will not occur to you and the teacher himself will be surprised at your abilities. Come up with interesting questions on the topic under study, remember some interesting story or anecdote and offer yourself to tell, teachers love initiative students very much, then you will see that the teacher himself will start throwing additional, interesting material for you, seeing your interest in learning.

Think about what you are interested in doing related to the development of speaking skills: learning short everyday expressions, memorizing the thoughts of great people, learning dialogues, texts, retelling, or just spontaneously discussing different topics. You can do more what you like more, or you can alternate different activities for a change.

How to organize yourself?
Take a piece of paper and clearly write the goals, how you want to talk, what, at what level. Reread every morning. Reflect on your goals for the day.

Make it a rule to first do tasks aimed at developing speaking skills, and then everything else, if you really want to speak well. Any exercises, of course, develop speech, well, if you want to speak, you need to do more tasks such as where you need to speak.

If you really don’t like some task, you yourself choose the task and do it. No one will swear for this, and this is better than nothing. And you can also ask (only politely) that the teacher explains the meaning of the task, realizing the goal, everything is easier to do.

Before you study, tune in, remember why you need it, why you are interested in it, what will happen when you speak well.

Keep a diary of your successes, reflect on your achievements, what you want to achieve, what else would you like to do. Analyze the lesson: what you liked, what caused discomfort. Why? What can you do to fix this.

Communicate with successful people in this field, look for friends with the same goals. Good communication is very beneficial. Connect more with those who cheer you up and inspire you. In general, observe yourself, from which your mood rises and you want to learn, what contributes to this. For me, for example, everything new is very inspiring: a new book, a disk, communication. Think about what is stopping you. The seminar helps a lot in this definition.

How to learn to retell?
In general, exclude the abusive and scary word “retelling” from your vocabulary, replace it as follows: what did I learn from this text or what do I remember? (for many, the school reflex is triggered – at one word “retelling” they pale)

Do not start retelling only when the text already takes up an entire page. Start where there are 4-5 more sentences – easy, affordable, simple. Then, as the volume of the readable texts increases, you will learn to retell more, but gradually.

When reading with a highlighter (your favorite color), mark the key words, then it will be easier to remember the content. You can highlight new words that you want to definitely learn how to use in speech. Afraid, there is no one to check, record yourself on a cassette. Then open the tutorial and check.

Choose interesting texts: what you could tell colleagues, friends. Joke? Interesting countries? Interesting people? Recipes? (there are computer encyclopedias in English)

The retelling is short (highlighting the main thing, here you can speak in your own words and it is very suitable for those who have a large vocabulary, and the speaking skill is much weaker) and detailed (its purpose, as a rule, is to memorize new vocabulary).

Be sure to retell out loud – connect the auditory analyzer.

Don’t worry about speed: you won’t get away from fluent speech in due time. Everything will come. But you need to retell it carefully, several times, until there is a state of comfort and the feeling that you are doing it well.

How to learn by heart?
Start with a very small volume. Also out loud.

Small signs are very helpful (in some mailing list Dina wrote about them). Write small sentences on pieces of paper. I love quotes from wise people, for example. Put on the table, hang in the bathroom, in the kitchen. And you see, according to the offer, it’s very well recruited per day. You can put different leaflets with phrases as bookmarks in books.

Don’t start with super lyrics. Learn what is simple and easy. Gradually, complex texts will become available. Start literally with two or three sentences, when it’s easy, add more.

Learn exactly what will come in handy.

In general, retelling and memorizing texts is good because you memorize words immediately in context. Many idioms remain in memory, prepositions are immediately remembered. Speech develops at a fabulous pace for those who learn by heart.

If you often cannot express it in Russian either.

Here you need to form your opinion about everything. The question is closely related to the presence of its own value system. Turn off the TV altogether, exclude from communication people who conduct empty conversations, more literature on achieving success and working on oneself, try to be more silent and think about everything in the world. It turns out, as it were, not the amount of information, but the quality of its comprehension. An opinion is formed and self-confidence grows.

The more you are alone with yourself, the less you watch TV and the less you communicate, the less you are exposed to other people’s opinions, and the faster you can sort out yourself and decide on your opinion on all issues.

How to learn to speak simply, it is easy to find synonyms.
First of all, to understand that without this it is impossible to speak freely.

Read the text and summarize in your own words as best you can. Retell the main idea of what you read.

If you are taking courses, when retelling, or in general when you speak, forget that there is a teacher in the class, imagine that he does not speak English and do not ask what word will be because right now it has become extremely interesting for you, hope only on your own and construct sentences in such a way as to get around an unfamiliar word. Developing the ability to bypass expressions that don’t come to mind is more important than expanding vocabulary. When you’re done talking, ask your health.

Speak the way you can, not the way you should.

Try to say the same idea in different words.

Important note: don’t think this is for someone who already knows a lot, no. This ability must be developed immediately. Already at the initial level, when the vocabulary is not large yet. This is very helpful, as this exercise also strongly activates the vocabulary. Look at the children: 3 years – 3000 words, but they speak fluently, detailed phrasal speech, few mistakes.
